i may well be the last dallasite to see the genius of british artist phil collins at the dma. phil collins: the world won't listen is brilliant! in the video trilogy, indonesian, columbian, and turkish karaoke singers shamelessly belt out track after track of The Smiths album the world won't listen.

it was crowded tonight and i can't wait to go back during lunch tomorrow for a more intimate viewing. i love to think of the singers there now, crooning their guts out on a loop in the dark museum. i'm sure they shut the show down at closing time, but still, i love to think of them carrying on.

did anyone else happen to notice how freakishly accurate most of the indonesian folks were?

midnight marauder

once upon a time, midnight marauder meant only one thing. it meant "clap ya hands" and "we can get down". and it meant skipping school and running from trouble and hoping to run into trouble. it was all about feeling free and wild and so, so alive and a little scared. it was phife saying:

watch them all here. fun and lovely and so much like being outside when it's warm and windy. i watched them all end on end and now i feel like i know them. like they may stop by for a beer or something and bust out all their instruments and romp around the house while i make dinner.
